Audio Panels
OUR OPINIONS ON AUDIO PANEL AVIONICS
Brought to you by
APG - Eastern Avionics International
For most pilots audio panels are a real mystery, but there are a few rules that
universally apply:
- All radios of all brands have the same low level outputs and will work
with all audio panels.
- Some older Narco and most Cessna audio panels do not have an internal
speaker amplifier -- this limits their use in new installations.
- Adding missing switches or marker beacon lights to any Cessna audio panel
is a bad idea. The job of rewiring these units can be costly and confusing.
- Don't worry about mixing manufacturers like a PS Engineering audio panel
with a Bendix/King radio. All audio panels look pretty much the same and
wire up to just about any radio, so get the one that meets your requirements
and budget.
- Virtually all old Marker Beacon Receivers like the Narco MBT-12 series
are no longer reliable and should be replaced with newer generation units
rather than being repaired.
APG-Eastern Avionics has an extensive array of audio systems and marker beacon
receivers suited to every requirement. Only a few are highlighted on this
page. We custom design full audio control systems for corporate aircraft of
all types and can also meet the special needs of law enforcement and fire
services.
Much of your radio and navigation equipment is wired through your audio panel,
so it really makes sense to get a good, solid unit. You may with to consider
our Kwikmount options which will simplify your
wiring and could definitely improve your avionics performance.

Garmin GMA-340 Audio Panel with Intercom
$1,989.00
010-00152-11
The Garmin GMA-340 audio panel features built
in marker beacon receivers and a fully isolated 2 to 6 place intercom system
with stereo capability. Discreet audio amplifiers for pilot, copilot, and
passengers provide excellent reliability and special cabin noise de-emphasis
circuitry keeps the intercom from tripping when engine power levels change.
LED-illuminated push button controls allow audio selection of both Nav and
Comm audio. Large buttons activate the Comm microphone and audios for up
to three Comm transceivers to simplify cockpit workload. A Split Comm feature
allows the pilot to transmit/receive on Comm 1 and the co-pilot to transmit/receive
on Comm 2. MASQ™ processing reduces ambient noise from the avionics inputs.
Comm transmit indication is also provided. Speaker selection is available
to monitor the aircraft radios or to make PA announcements. There are two
unswitched inputs for telephone ringers, altitude alert warnings, or other
warning tones. In addition, this model includes a six-place VOX intercom
with three selectable modes of isolation, dual stereo music inputs, and
independent pilot, co-pilot, and passenger volume control. Each microphone
input has a dedicated VOX circuit to ensure that only the active microphone
is heard when squelch is broken. Special cabin noise de-emphasis circuitry
enhances cockpit communications. Also standard is the three-light Marker
Beacon Receiver/Indicator with high/low sensitivity selection and SmartMute™
marker audio muting. Surface mount technology provides shallow depth and
light weight, which simplifies installation in the tightest aircraft spaces

Garmin GMA-347 Audio Panel with Intercom
$2,695.00
010-00275-01
The GMA 347 audio panel builds upon the successful attributes of the GMA 340 while adding benefits such as automatic squelch, digital clearance recorder, and a full-duplex telephone interface. The GMA 347's automatic squelch option makes the entire audio experience quieter and clearer. Since there are some occasions when pilots wouldn’t want an automatic squelch—such as high-noise environments—the GMA 347 also retains the manual squelch adjustment feature. Garmin has also added three more unmuted, unswitched inputs with individual volume control.
The GMA 347’s automatic digital clearance recorder helps pilots manage the demands of a busy cockpit. The unit continuously captures the last two and one half minutes of audio switched through the panel. If a pilot misses a frequency change or clearance, he or she can replay the necessary information by simply pressing the “play” button. In addition, the GMA 347 has a full-duplex telephone interface with intercom isolation and disable capability. This feature allows private telephone calls by the pilot or copilot, or multi-party calls with crew and/or passengers. Pilots will also appreciate the integration of the G1000’s “configuration module” into the GMA 347. If the audio panel is ever removed, all of the pilot’s preferred settings are automatically loaded into the unit. The GMA-347 price shown is the base price for Installation and IFR Certification at our Punta Gorda facilities.

$1,895.00 $1,595.00 On Sale!
The most versatile audio panel available today! The PMA-7000B audio panel incorporates IntelliVOX® and provides enhanced capabilities such as full duplex wireless telephone, audiophile stereo music, marker beacon, etc. FEATURES:
By removing the rotary mic selector knob in favor of an all push button selector approach, the PMA7000B provides not only traditional capability of an audio panel, but now adds an interface for any hands free cellular telephone.

PS Engineering PMA-7000CD Audio Selector Panel w/IntelliVox,CD/MP3,MB
$2,399.00 $2,099.00 On Sale!
World's First Audio Panel to Combine Communications
and Entertainment into One System!
The PMA7000CD combines a version of the PMA7000MS and PCD7100 to create an extremely versatile audio panel with a remote-mounted CD/MP3 player. FEATURES:
The single-disk player is controlled by the PMA7000CD, eliminating the pushbuttons on the CD player itself. This reduces panel space requirements by 25%, not to mention costs. To make room for the CD controls, the archaic DME and ADF buttons were dropped (although the audio inputs are still functional) and replaced with the CD controls.
The split mode, pioneered by PS Engineering, is still available, but now uses an intuitive push button selection. To make operation simpler, Com 1 priority is provided to the pilot, in split mode, with copilot selection of Com 2 or 3. The audio panel has concentric volume controls, one for intercom and one music volume. The PMA7000CD retains the dual independent music sources. These can be paralleled to the PCD7100-R if desired.
The telecommunications distribution in the PMA7000CD has also been improved by adding a full-duplex interface to aviation-standard impedance. This allows distribution of AirCell and Globalstar and Iridium conversations, providing private telephone calls by the pilot or copilot, or party line calls with the passengers and/or crew, using Com 3. The unit can easily be configured as either a Com 3 aviation or Com 3 AirCell interface at installation. The PMA7000CD now has four un-switched and un-muted inputs. PS Engineering PMA-8000B Audio Panel System w/IntelliVOX
$1,995.00 $1,695.00 On Sale!
This Flagship Model features control for two VHF coms (including
split mode), a TEL interface, 6-pl. IntelliVox® stereo intercom with dual
music inputs, 3LMB, and all the features of the PMA-7000 and PMA-6000 panels
described below. The PMA8000 is direct replacement for the GARMIN GMA340;
(SR is pin compatible) making for an easy upgrade. Dual music inputs lets
your passengers enjoy a DVD, while the crew listens to music, while maintaining
full intercom contact. The duplex TEL mode interfaces easily to any aircraft
phone so anyone in the aircraft can talk on the flightphone, while the crew
uses the VHF radios. You can also enjoy music continuously by placing music
in the background and radios in the foreground. The latest version of the
PMA8000 now uses an audio utility interface on the FRONT of the unit and
Smart Function Keys that allow you to customize your audio panel. The front-mounted,
2.5mm multipurpose jack allows you to easily connect a cell phone, portable
music device, or feed voice announcements directly into your audio panel.
New front-panel configuration controls are now available, making the PMA8000
the most flexible audio panel in the world. When used as an entertainment
input, the music is directed to the crew, and PS Engineering's patented
SoftMute™ functions normally, or, PS's "Karaoke Mode"™ can be activated
by pressing the "Mute" button, eliminating interruptions to the music from
intercom traffic. However, if music is present at the rear connector, the
PMA8000 recognizes the front jack as the advisory messages. These alert
messages are not muted, and presented to the crew headphones only. The default
mode for the new input jack is as an unswitched audio input, suitable for
terrain or other advisory systems. Using the new "Smart Function Keys" (SFK),
this mode can be switched to a music input with a simple key sequence. PS
Engineering's VTS (Virtual Tech Support) is simply voice prompting with
each special function selection assures that the pilot knows exactly what
the new audio panel configuration is in plain English. Several other audio
panel configurations are available using SFK. The music source from the
front or rear can be directed to all persons on the intercom, or the second
music can be activated in crew, or, the dual inputs can be independent.
This not only allows users of earlier versions such as the PMA6000M-S or
GMA340 to keep the same type of music switching, but also allows the occupants
to customize their music environment "on the fly." Yet another function
is that the front utility jack, or rear-input music can be directed to all
intercom positions regardless of the intercom mode. No audio panel from
any manufacturer offers this kind of flexibility. The PMA8000 utility jack
also is a convenient way to connect your cellular telephone. The 2.5 mm
jack is the same size as on most cellular phones, making the connection
easy. When connected to a telephone and the pilot pushes the "TEL" button
on the PMA8000 anyone who is on the intercom is on the phone, taking advantage
of all of the ISO, ALL and Crew Isolation intercom modes. Best of all, the
pilot can receive and transmit on the VHF COM with ATC as well, for seamless
integration in the cockpit. (Cellular telephone use in flight is not permitted,
but is a great way to contact air-traffic control or a weather briefer while
on the ground.) PS Engineering's Internal Recording System (IRS) is now
included as standard equipment. Originally a $130 option, it is now part
of the audio package, allowing pilots to play back messages, eliminating
the need for the pilot to ask "say again," or assure themselves that the
last radio call was for them. A long press of the selected COM audio switch
will play back the last recorded message. Up to 16 messages can be recorded
and played back in sequence.

PS Engineering PMA-8000 is the most advanced light general aviation audio
control system ever built.

EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE HOMEBUILDER
With more and more integration happening in the cockpit, and with the more relaxed rules that govern the Experimental Aircraft marketplace, the folks at PS Engineering, Inc. wanted to offer capability that meets the needs of the homebuilder.
Because strict adherence to TSO limitations was not required, management changed the way this product development project was going to run. They decided to let the engineers run loose with their imagination.
The results? Unparalleled Innovation, Utility, and Functionality.
The backlit Liquid Crystal Graphics Display provides an easy way to manage the audio system. At a glance see what radios are selected, titles of songs, and message alerts. A host of audio panel configurations can be changed with a twist of the Rotary Data Knob.
Our trademark front panel utility jack acts as an iPod input, telephone input, or USB port for the onboard MP3 player. This USB port allows the crew and passengers to download music from a memory stick, providing hours of continuous music listening.
The Bluetooth® interface eliminates the wire clutter that used to be necessary to connect
telephones. This wireless interface gets the pilot as close to hands free flying as possible!
The unprecedented number of audio panel configurations allows the pilots to make the system work just the way they want.
There are 5 different ways that any two of the three music inputs can be distributed. And making that configuration change is as easy as turning the Data Knob and select which distribution setup best meets the needs of the occupants.
And of course, non of the capabilities of the venerable PMA8000B has been lost on the PMA9000EX. It too is plug and play with the GARMIN GMA340.
BluetoothÒ Wireless Connection
Allows Bluetooth capable telephones to wirelessly connect their phone to their audio panel system
Ø Built-In MP3 Player
512 Megabyte memory provides about 8 hours of continuous music listening
Ø Graphics Display
Just A Glance (JAG) tells the pilot how the audio panel is configured or what song is being played. JAG provides a great human interface to easily select configurations of the audio panel to best meet the pilot's needs.
Ø Front panel jack for USB, Phone & iPod
An easy way to get your iPod, hardwired telephone, or a Memory Stick connected as means for uploading music.
