ADF; Automatic Direction Finders
OUR OPINIONS ON AIRCRAFT
ADF SYSTEMS
Brought to you by
APG - Eastern Avionics International
An ADF still is a highly useful navigation instrument, particularly
for IFR flying. Easy operation is its long suit. It is tough to beat a system
that simply points to the station you tune in. Furthermore, instrument approaches
into many small airports, expecially outside the USA are still NDB-based. Lastly, if you are equipping an aircraft for operation outside of the USA you are generally required to have an ADF.
ADF is the simplest navigation system to fly and is still
very useful in the cockpit.
The newest digital ADFs all have coherent detection for high
sensitivity, self dimming flip-flop displays, and approach timers -- a truly
great feature. All ADFs require two antennas -- a sense antenna and a loop
antenna -- but the latest digital models have combined loop-sense antennas.
All of our units are priced with loop antenna and indicator.
When you are ready for an ADF, call us at APG-Eastern Avionics.
Many fine models are available although only a few are listed here. We can
point you in the right direction and get you the ADF that meets your needs
and pocketbook.
HOT TIP!! Whenever you buy an ADF, you must
be sure you're getting the following extras with it:
- The specific loop or belly antenna made exclusively for that ADF model.
- The doubler plate for that loop antenna.
- The sense antenna or long wire antenna if your specific ADF requires it.
- The mounting racks, connectors and contact pins.
- The special loop cable made for your specific ADF model and WITHOUT any
cuts or splices.
Note: Loop cables are very specialized and expensive, often
costing more than $300. In most cases, once cut, they cannot be respliced
because this would alter the tuning of the system, rendering the ADF inoperative.
If you have an ADF that is giving you trouble, it may be the antenna. It is
always best to give us a call before you simply make the decision to upgrade.

Bendix/King KR-87 Digital ADF System
$5,810.00 $5,139.00 On Sale!
KR0087-16
The KR 87 offers superb dependability in a compact, attractive TSO'd unit. It provides accurate bearing-to-station in the 200 kHz to 1799 kHz frequency range, complete with ADF, ANT and BFO tuning modes, plus audio output for station identification and monitoring AM broadcasts.
The KR 87's advanced "coherent detection" design rejects unwanted frequency noise and achieves much greater range while remaining less susceptible to engine noise, static and atmospheric interference. Its "flip-flop" frequency display allows you to switch between pre-selected standby and active frequencies with the touch of a button.
Both frequencies are stored in a non-volatile memory circuit, meaning you don't have to worry about battery power.
Weight: KR 87: 3.2 lbs. (1.45 kg)
KA 44B: 2.8 lb. (1.27 kg)
KI 227: 0.7 lbs. (0.32 kg)
Power Required: 11-33 VDC at 12 W
